Printmaking art holiday in Tuscany 2024. Join me for a very special experience on my Printmaking In Tuscany Holiday. An art and craft holiday set in the lovely medieval town of Barga in Tuscany, Italy.
Our Art Holiday Location
Barga is a small traditional hilltop town. It has medieval narrow streets and fantastic mountain scenery. Barga is featured in various guides as one of the most beautiful towns in Italy and therefore provides lots of inspiration for art holidays. The town offers a number of restaurants, independent shops, supermarket, post office, cafes and bars. There are good day trip opportunities to Florence, Lucca and Pietrasanta (a special destination for those interested in sculpture).
We will be based at Quattro Archi in the old town part of Barga. This northern area of Tuscany is more mountainous than the south and the position of Barga on the side of the valley provides a spectacular setting with some wonderful views and memorable sunsets. There is a large private terrace which is the centre of attention for most people because of it’s wonderful views over the town and surrounding countryside.
What's Included
Inspiration for art surrounds Quattro Archi – the building is purposely designed to inspire creativity in a truely relaxing and stunning location. The week will include 5 sessions of printmaking. There will also be an opportunity to exhibit your work in an intimate professional gallery environment at the end of the week if you would like to.
We will be going in September so that the weather we still be warm but not as hot as the middle of the summer and you can avoid the school holidays and access cheaper flights. Checkout some of the lovely reviews from previous guests on on some of my other printmaking holidays and workshops.

What a fabulous week. Lucy you found such a perfect venue almost at the top of a Tuscan hill with glorious views. The hosts Jane and Michael were extremely accommodating and helpful – it would have been very challenging organising taxis without Michael’s help – and Bob Mortimer (lookalike) was such a prompt and nice driver! The breakfasts were delicious and varied, with a new Italian delicacy every day.
You clearly put a lot of work into preparing for the workshop, and providing the little Barga booklet and the yellow printed bag was a nice touch. You explained four techniques in a row as part of catching up, and as a complete novice I got rather confused at the beginning. Plus, naively I hadn’t realised the importance of being able to draw! I slowly got into the swing of it and enjoyed doing the cyanotypes and lino cut prints on the last couple of days.
You were very patient and helpful, letting me progress at my own rate and providing help when I needed it, although I realise that was sometimes difficult for you given the demands from other members of the group! I really appreciated your flexibility in letting me participate in some activities and being happy for me to take time out to photograph beautiful Barga.
The final exhibition in the spacious downstairs of the building was a lovely surprise (even though some of my work was very dodgy!). It was a perfect ending to the week, with fizz, nibbles and jazz and members of the public coming to look at our work – it felt very celebratory. Thanks again for all your hard work in ensuring we all had a good time and learned something new.

Lucy you make these holidays with your enthusiasm and your ability to relate to everyone in the group. I felt you were on my side in the struggles that I was having with my health. I really did appreciate you leaving me to do my own thing but also valued your comments when there was time to talk. I wanted to work in a project way on doors and you were ok with my decision not to do Lino and concentrate on the tetra-pack prints and I appreciated that.
A big thank you to Michael and Jane for their hospitality and for sharing their own ideas and experiences and their home and studio. The breakfasts were great and very welcome.
I was just so pleased to have got there and then come home with a couple of prints I really like – I guess this might be the last time I make the journey unless my health improves.

Dear Lucy, Thank you for being such a kind and helpful teacher. It was great to share this workshop with you and the others! I had not expected to try such a range of printmaking techniques and you were always so encouraging with lots of positive feedback. Lucy your friendly, encouraging, warm, caring manner contributes so well to the 5 day workshop. You respond so well to a range of abilities, personalities and individual personal needs. I liked working in an artists studio with equipment close at hand. I enjoyed revisiting the skills of printmaking and feel now more confident in using these skills in my artwork back at home. I have enjoyed being immersed in an artistic town with inspiration everywhere in another European country. My overall experience of this holiday was great and lived up to my expectations of good company, enthusiastic artists and Lucy’s kind, patient teaching. She’s the best!
The highlight of the holiday for me was the exhibition where all students work was exhibited by our kind hosts in a most beautiful gallery. The ambience of the event was friendly, relaxed and most enjoyable. I have pursued areas of printmaking which were out of my comfort zone and this gained confidence and grown as a practicing artist. Lucy as a good teacher and has challenged us in a supportive way thus quietly enabling us to reach our full potential as learners. I enjoyed the variety of end products, the cards and working on fabric producing small bags was a real treat. Thank you so much Lucy for another treat holiday.

Dear Lucy, I have had a really lovely time in Barga with you and the rest of the group. Thank you so much for your enduring calmness, patience and support. I found my trip on the printmaking holiday in Tuscany to be a wonderful experience. It was my first time to Tuscany and I thought Barga was really beautiful. The venue was great, a wonderful view of the mountains from the balcony which was a feast for the eyes and heart.
I loved the individuality of the rooms and the inspirational artwork on display. Michael and Jane were great hosts and Lucy led us all through an enjoyable variety of printmaking techniques.
I loved that we had our own studio space and it felt special having our exhibition at the end of the week with a drinks reception. I feel very lucky to have had this experience. With love Jane xx
