I was really looking forward to my ‘Printmaking in Portugal’ holiday and it didn’t disappoint. As I was travelling alone, I was a little apprehensive, but having participated in a workshop with Lucy some years ago, I was impressed by her warm and friendly manner and professionalism and I felt I would be in safe hands. I had very little experience of printmaking prior to the holiday and enjoyed learning a variety of techniques throughout the week, taking inspiration from the surrounding gardens. Lucy was always calm, encouraging, and sensitive to our individual needs. She handled each of our prints with care and respect as if they were masterpieces which made the process even more pleasurable. I’m now keen to put these newly acquired skills into further practice. It felt a real privilege to spend the week with Lucy and the other lovely members of the group. They were a brimming pool of knowledge and inspiration and I’m sure we’ll keep in touch via the WhatsApp group now we’re back home.

Frank and Daniela were great hosts and Daniela’s home cooked meals were delicious. I needn’t have worried about feeling hungry between meals! The view from the dining area was glorious. The Quinta is in a beautiful setting and in between our printing sessions, I thoroughly enjoyed dabbling on the lovely lake with the kayaks and paddleboards and taking daily (intentional!) dips to keep refreshed in the Portuguese sunshine.

As well as a novice printer, I was also new to birdwatching and found my first ‘birding’ experience very enjoyable. Frank is a font of knowledge, and it was a bonus when he took a detour to allow us to see the flamingos near the airport prior to our departure, especially when they took flight.

Although it was only a week, I have a treasure chest of memories to last a lifetime – it was a really special experience and one which I’d highly recommend.

Brilliant! Lucy is passionate about printmaking and her enthusiasm was felt and appreciated by all of the group. Lucy made us feel welcomed and at ease as soon as we arrived and all our group bonded well together. I felt guided and assisted by Lucy learning all the new techniques of printmaking. Lucy has a quiet reassuring teaching style which enabled me to feel confident to explore and succeed at printmaking. She allowed my creativity to flow and enabled me to learn new skills. She is approachable and kind. I did not feel under pressure. A fun, learning environment was created. Lucy was observant to all our differing learning styles and very patient! I enjoyed learning all the techniques of printmaking which Lucy had clearly prepared and resourced for the week. Lucy carefully explained all the tasks and gave us an outline of what we could expect over the week. I loved it and would love to do more printmaking. Thank you Lucy. J x

I really enjoyed the holiday! Very pleased with my prints and thanks for all your gentle, patient instruction. I shall use this as a springboard to pursue printing further. Great companionship – nice to meet like minded people (but also the space to retire from the group) Great food – every meal! Heavenly accommodation – so beautiful and so different from most places. Loved the opportunity to swim both early morning with the pine scented mist rolling over the water and to cool off after a long day printing. Enjoyed the opportunity to paddle board and canoe too. Enjoyed the half day bird watching.

Perfect holiday, picture perfect location, venue. Wonderful people. Peaceful and relaxing. Printing skills learnt. Patient tutor, calm, relaxed, talented. Hypnotic, engrossing, mesmerising place, thoughtful, kind and caring group. Incredible hard working and friendly staff. Fun! Variety of things to do, see, engaged with. Indescribably magnificent. So relaxed. Loved every minute of it. Love your relaxed way with people.

Very positive – apart from my own grey fog moments and dips but that was down to me. A lovely group of people and great support from you to keep all the activities on track. I wanted to see how I felt about printmaking after this and it’s left me wanting to have go.

A fabulous holiday, creative and social experience. I felt very warmly welcomed by Lucy, Frank, Daniela and their staff. Lucy has a very warm and relaxed manner that made joining as an individual member easy. I really enjoyed Lucy’s calm and encouraging teaching and leadership style and appreciated her ability to meet the individual skill level of each group member. I gained confidence in the printing techniques covered and look forward to continuing them at home. The location is spectacular, the outdoor studio set up in the garden underneath the veranda a perfect lace to be inspired and relaxed. Daniela’s meals were fresh, healthy and a treat to share with our friendly group and other guests. Frank is a skilled host and is particularly environmentally conscious. My room was extremely comfortable and I did love the big bath and a float on the hot days. I enjoyed the variation of the walking and bird tour half day along with the visit to the local village. Its optional nature was important. Swims in the lake were great fun. I highly recommend the ‘Printmaking in Portugal’ holiday. I came away relaxed, inspired to be creative and with a new group of friends. Very cool and lovely to work with you.
